Description

Free to Roam: Asia – A Journey Across the World’s Largest Continent

Pack your bags for an 8-week adventure across Asia—the continent of empires, inventions, warriors, and poets! From the heights of the Great Wall to the gentle beauty of haiku poetry, students will explore history, culture, and creativity through immersive, hands-on activities. Each week invites learners to step into the role of builders, artists, nomads, or traders while crafting, writing, cooking, and celebrating Asia’s diversity.

Week 1: The Great Wall of China
Students become junior engineers and historians as they build a mini Great Wall and experiment with lantern “signal fires” to understand how soldiers once communicated across miles.

Week 2: Origami – The Art of Paper Folding
Future artists practice precision and patience while folding paper animals and cranes, learning how a single sheet of paper can become a work of art and symbol of peace.

Week 3: Life of the Mongolian Nomads
Stepping into the world of the steppe, students design miniature yurts and try felt textile crafts while exploring the survival skills of nomadic herders.

Week 4: Ancient Mesopotamia and Cuneiform
Young scribes press wedge-shaped marks into clay to make cuneiform tablets and write their own law codes, connecting with one of the earliest civilizations.

Week 5: Samurai Armor
Students step into the role of warriors by building cardboard armor and creating a personal bushido code scroll that blends honor, discipline, and creativity.

Week 6: Asian Mythology and Dragon Art
Future storytellers explore dragons and legends by crafting dragon masks and art, then joining in a dragon puppet parade that brings myths to life.

Week 7: The Silk Road
As merchants and travelers, students simulate marketplace trading games and map Silk Road cities, discovering how goods and ideas flowed across continents.

Week 8: Japanese Haiku
In the final week, learners slow down like poets, writing illustrated haiku inspired by nature walks and seasonal beauty, capturing the heart of Japan’s literary tradition.

✨ Optional Bonus: Cooking – Asian Dumplings
Bring the taste of Asia to the classroom as students fold and cook dumplings, sharing food together just as families across the continent have done for centuries.
